Is It Right for You?

Who Underarm Botox Is For

👔

Visible Sweat Marks

If certain colours or fabrics are off-limits because of sweat marks, this treatment directly addresses the cause rather than just managing the symptom.

💼

Professional & Social Situations

For clients who feel anxious about sweating during presentations, interviews, dates, or any situation where staying composed matters.

🩺

Diagnosed Hyperhidrosis

If you sweat excessively regardless of temperature, activity level, or stress, this could be axillary hyperhidrosis — a recognized medical condition that responds very well to Botox treatment.

🧴

Antiperspirants Aren't Enough

If you have tried clinical-strength antiperspirants without success, Botox addresses the problem at the nerve and gland level rather than just blocking pores temporarily.

🏃

Active Lifestyles

For clients who exercise regularly or have physically demanding jobs and want a longer-lasting solution to excessive sweating than topical products provide.

🎉

Special Occasions

Many clients book before a wedding, big event, or summer season specifically to avoid the stress of visible sweating on the day.

The Science

How Underarm Botox Stops Sweating

Understanding the mechanism helps explain why this treatment works so reliably for excessive sweating.

1

Nerve Signal Blocked

Sweat glands are activated by signals from nearby nerves. Botox and Dysport block the chemical messenger (acetylcholine) that triggers these nerves.

2

Sweat Glands Go Quiet

Without the nerve signal, the targeted sweat glands in the underarm stop producing sweat at their usual rate, dramatically reducing perspiration in that specific area.

3

Effect Gradually Fades

Over 4 to 6 months, the nerve-blocking effect gradually wears off and normal sweat gland function returns, which is why repeat treatment maintains results.

Botulinum toxin (Botox, Dysport) for severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis is approved by Health Canada and has been used clinically for this purpose since the early 2000s.

Common Questions

Underarm Botox North York — Frequently Asked Questions

How much does underarm Botox cost in North York?+

Underarm Botox with Dysport at Sonia Cosmetic Clinic in North York is $380, which covers both underarms in a single treatment session. Book online at soniacosmetic.com/book-online or call 647-915-5867.

How do I know if I have hyperhidrosis or just normal sweating?+

Signs of hyperhidrosis include sweating through clothing regardless of temperature or activity level, sweating that interferes with daily or social activities, fairly symmetrical sweating in both underarms, and a family history of excessive sweating. If antiperspirants stop working by midday or you avoid certain colours because of sweat marks, this may be more than normal perspiration. Maryam can help you understand your specific situation during a consultation.

How does Botox stop underarm sweating?+

Botox and Dysport block the nerve signal that tells sweat glands to activate. When injected into the underarm in a grid pattern, the treatment temporarily switches off the glands responsible for excessive sweating in that area, significantly reducing both sweat production and the odor that develops from it.

Is underarm Botox better than clinical-strength antiperspirant?+

Clinical-strength antiperspirants physically block sweat ducts and need daily reapplication, often losing effectiveness as the day goes on. Underarm Botox works at the nerve level to stop sweat glands from activating in the first place, providing 4 to 6 months of consistent results from a single appointment rather than a daily routine.

How long does underarm Botox last?+

Results typically last 4 to 6 months. Some clients find that with repeated treatments over time, the effect extends slightly longer as the sweat glands become progressively less active.

Is underarm Botox safe?+

Yes. Botulinum toxin for axillary hyperhidrosis is a Health Canada-approved treatment with over two decades of clinical use and a strong safety record. When performed by an experienced practitioner using precise injection technique, the risk profile is very low.

Is the treatment painful?+

Most clients describe it as a series of small pinches. The underarm has fewer nerve endings than areas like the face, so discomfort is generally mild. Numbing cream can be applied beforehand for clients who prefer extra comfort.

Will I still sweat anywhere else on my body?+

Yes. The treatment only affects the sweat glands in the treated underarm area. Sweating elsewhere on your body, which is necessary for regulating body temperature, continues normally. This is why underarm Botox is considered safe — it does not interfere with your body's overall ability to cool itself.
