The name HydraFacial gets used a lot. It has become one of those treatments people have heard of without being entirely sure what it actually does.
This guide gives you the complete picture. How it works, what it genuinely addresses, who benefits most from it, and what to expect at our HydraFacial clinic in North York and Richmond Hill.
What is a HydraFacial?
A HydraFacial is a multi-step clinical facial that combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, and hydration in a single session using a medical-grade device.
The device uses a vortex tip that simultaneously cleans congestion from pores while infusing pharmaceutical-grade serums into the skin. It does two things at once that traditional facials have always done separately, and it does both more thoroughly.
The result is skin that is cleaner, clearer, and more hydrated. Most clients leave with an immediate glow that lasts several days. There is no redness. No peeling. No downtime.
The three steps of a HydraFacial
Step 1: Cleanse and resurface
A gentle resurfacing solution removes dead skin cells and loosens congestion without the discomfort of a traditional chemical peel. The skin surface is prepared for extraction and serum infusion.
Step 2: Extract and hydrate
This is the step that makes HydraFacial different from a standard facial. The vortex suction removes blackheads and pore buildup while simultaneously delivering hydrating serum into the freshly opened pores. Manual extraction alone cannot replicate this.
Step 3: Protect and nourish
Antioxidants and peptides are infused into the treated skin to support the hydration effect and protect the fresh surface. The full session takes 45 to 60 minutes at both our North York and Richmond Hill locations.
What does a HydraFacial treat?
Congested and enlarged pores
Dry or dehydrated skin
Dull, tired complexion
Fine lines caused by dryness rather than volume loss
Mild hyperpigmentation and uneven tone
Oily skin prone to blackheads
Early-stage comedonal acne congestion
Knowing what it does not treat is equally important. HydraFacial is a surface treatment. It does not address deep acne scars, structural sagging, or significant skin laxity. For acne scarring, our microneedling North York and microneedling Richmond Hill treatments reach the dermis where scar tissue actually forms. For lifting and structural tightening, see our HIFU North York and HIFU Richmond Hill pages.
HydraFacial vs a standard facial
A traditional facial depends on manual techniques and the skill of the therapist. Results vary. HydraFacial uses a consistent device-driven process with controlled serum delivery. The exfoliation is more thorough, the extraction is more effective, and the serum penetration is measurably better.
A Classic Facial at our clinics starts at $79. A HydraFacial starts at $89. The additional cost reflects the clinical-grade process and pharmaceutical serums. Both are available through our facial treatments North York page and facial treatments Richmond Hill page.
Is HydraFacial good for acne?
For comedonal acne, yes. If your breakouts are primarily blackheads, whiteheads, and congested pores, HydraFacial is a genuinely effective option. The extraction step clears congestion and the serums help regulate oiliness over time.
For inflammatory acne with active red pustules and cysts, HydraFacial alone is not the right primary treatment. See our acne treatment North York and acne treatment Richmond Hill pages which cover targeted acne treatments including anti-acne facials and light therapy.
How often should you get a HydraFacial?
Monthly sessions are the standard recommendation. The skin's natural renewal cycle is approximately 28 days, so monthly HydraFacials maintain a consistently clean and hydrated surface.
Many clients at our North York medical spa and Richmond Hill medical spa use monthly HydraFacials as maintenance between deeper treatments like microneedling or HIFU. The combination works well: deeper treatments rebuild skin structure, HydraFacial keeps the surface clean and radiant in between.
